Sikkim: Where the Road Runs Out of Air.

Six nights, seven days, and one relentless climb into the Eastern Himalaya — from the rail-town warmth of NJP to the thin, blue-white air above 17,000 feet.

Your journey begins in Gangtok, Sikkim's capital and the old gateway between Tibet and India, then pushes north into terrain most travelers never reach. At Tsomgo Lake, sacred waters sit ringed by mountains, with the option to go further still — to Nathula Pass, the literal edge of the Indo-China border. From there the road climbs to Lachen, past the Seven Sisters Waterfall and views of Kanchenjunga's summit, before the trip's most audacious morning: a pre-dawn departure to Gurudongmar Lake, one of the highest lakes on Earth, where the water freezes even the light.

Descend into Lachung and the Yumthang Valley — the "Valley of Flowers" — where rhododendrons burn red against alpine meadows and the Lachung River cuts through it all. Return to Gangtok for a final day among monasteries, viewpoints, and living Himalayan tradition before the long road back to the plains.

This isn't a scenic drive. It's an altitude expedition with a hotel room at the end of it — built for travelers who want the mountains to actually feel high.

Our team picks you up at the station or airport. After breakfast, we drive up to Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. The name means "hills" in Tibetan — it used to be a stop for traders travelling between Tibet and India. It's a lively, well-organised hill town. Settle in and rest, since the drive itself gains a lot of height.

Today we visit Tsomgo Lake, a deep, oval lake high in the mountains. Many birds, including Brahminy ducks, stop here during migration. Nearby is Baba Mandir, a temple that's deeply respected by locals — worth visiting even if you're not religious. Sometimes the lake road closes due to snow or landslides; if that happens, we'll take you somewhere else nearby instead. You can also add on a trip to Nathula Pass, which sits right on the India-China border. This costs extra and depends on permits and weather, but it's a unique thing to see if it's open.

After checkout, we drive north on winding mountain roads. Along the way we stop at the Seven Sisters Waterfall, a viewpoint at Singhik with views of Mt. Kanchenjunga (on a clear day), and Chungthang, where the road splits toward Lachen and Lachung. Lunch will be at a local restaurant, paid separately. We reach Lachen by evening, at about 9,400 ft. It's a quiet mountain town — a good place to rest early, since tomorrow starts very early.

This is one of the most special days of the trip. We leave around 4-5 AM to reach Gurudongmar Lake, one of the highest lakes in the world at around 17,800 ft. It's cold and it's an early start, but the lake is stunning — clear water surrounded by snow-covered mountains, and considered very sacred by local people. After some time there, we return to Lachen for breakfast and checkout, then drive on to Lachung, passing through Chungthang again. We stay overnight in Lachung.

Today we visit Yumthang Valley, known as the "Valley of Flowers." In spring, it's covered in blooming rhododendrons; in winter, it's blanketed in snow. Either way, with the Lachung River running through it, this is one of the prettiest stops on the trip.

A full day exploring Gangtok itself: Tashi viewpoint, Ganesh Tok, the Institute of Tibetology (closed Sundays), Dro-dul Chorten, Gonjang Monastery, and Banjhakri Falls. If the handicraft centre is open on your visit, it's a good place to pick up local souvenirs, since these aren't easy to find once you're home.

Early checkout and transfer back down to NJP or Bagdogra for your return journey. One important thing: Aadhar and PAN cards are not accepted as ID in Sikkim. Carry a passport, voter ID, driving licence, or birth certificate instead — this is easy to forget and can cause problems at checkpoints.

Notes on Transportation Used in Our Package.

Vehicles used are exclusively at the disposal of the guest for the entire tour for 12 Hours every day There is no change in the vehicle during the entire tour Our drivers are very well trained with the entire region and would ensure that they take the guest to all the places mentioned in the itinerary Maximum guests allowed in Innova is 6 including children above 4 years. If the no. of guest is more than 6 then they will have to take 1 more vehicle at an extra cost If there are 5 or more guests then they are advised to travel with very minimum baggage in case if the number of baggage is more than normal then the guest will have to take 1 more vehicle at an extra cost. In case the Guest is travelling with extra Bags they may have to take a extra car for the same at additional cost payable on spot.

We allot exclusive tour coordinator for the entire tour. The Guest may contact him / her over phone at any time in case of any emergency, changes in itinerary or any inconvenience which may have happened on account of hotels or transportation in case the guest requires a tour guide please let us know in advance. The same can be arranged at an extra cost Package can be extended on Pro-Rata basis All our packages are inclusive of Breakfast There will be no refund for any unutilized services.
